Trojans Dominate Late To Beat Fleet, 56-49

DUE WEST, S.C. Ė Anderson College outscored Erskine College 24-5 in the final 10:05 to take a 56-49 victory in a Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference menís game Monday night at the Belk Arena. Anderson, 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the CVAC, fell behind 16-0 in the first seven minutes of the game but then rallied to snap a two-game losing streak. The loss drops Erskine to 1-2, 0-1. Anderson was led by Chris Poore with 18 points and Kennedy Bass with 15 points. Just five AC players scored in the game. Craig Williams led Erskine with 16 points. The Trojans trailed 35-26 at the half but limited the Fleet to 19 percent from the field (5-26) in the second half. Anderson shot 41 percent for the game, while Erskine managed just 37 percent. AC held a huge advantage at the line. The Trojans were 15 of 21 from the stripe while Erskine was 3 for 7. Two field goals by Zimmerman and a free throw by Poore extended ACís lead to 52-46 with 2:17 to play. Trailing 44-32, Anderson went on a 15-2 run to take a 47-46 lead with 3:53 remaining. Poore led the rally with eight points, and Kennedy gave AC the lead for good with a layup at the 3:53 mark. A 3-point goal by Milfred Brock cut the AC lead to 52-49 with 1:37 left, but the Fleet could get no closer. Kennedy scored another layup with 14.8 seconds remaining to give AC a 54-49 lead. Anderson missed a golden opportunity to get back in the game early in the second half. The Fleet made just one field goal in the first eight minutes of the second half but managed to increase their lead to 40-30 with just under 12 minutes left. Isom made two 3-point goals in the final 1:30 to help give the Fleet a 35-26 lead at the half. Trailing 18-6, the Trojans put together a 13-4 rally to cut the Fleet lead to 22-19. Travis Tate made two 3-point goals during the rally. AC fell in a big hole early in the game. Erskine jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game.
