Men's Golf Sits in Ninth after AU Invitational Opening RoundSeptember 9, 2013
ANDERSON, S.C. – Senior Sean Shelton and sophomore David Wachter each carded a seven-over par 79 to lead the Anderson men’s golf team in opening-round action of the AU Invitational, hosted at the par-72, 7,005 yard Cobb’s Glen Country Club on Monday.
UNC Pembroke (292) leads the field of nine teams by six strokes over North Greenville (298), with Erskine College (301) sitting three shots further back. Cape Fear Community College (302) is fourth, while Pfeiffer (305) and Milligan (307) are fifth and sixth, respectively. Spartanburg Methodist (310) holds the seventh spot and Erskine College B (315) is eighth, with the Trojans (319) four shots further back.
UNC Pembroke’s Michael Mullmann (67), one of just two players to break par on the day, is the top individual following opening-round action and leads North Greenville’s Tucker MacDonald (69) by two strokes. Cape Fear’s Matt Elliott carded an even-par 72, with five individuals tied for fourth, just one shot further back.
Shelton and Wachter each recorded 11 pars on the day and are tied for 27th, with sophomore Rob Warren (80) in a six-way tie for 30th. Senior Arran Setro posted a first-round 81 and is tied for 36th, while junior CJ Messana (85) is locked in a four-way tie for 43rd.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
