Barton Beats Back Anderson Upset Bid, 85-80

WILSON, N.C. Ė Tim Black scored 35 points and Barton held off Anderson College down the stretch to beat the Trojans 85-80 in a CVAC menís game Saturday night. Barton, 15-3 overall and 11-2 in the CVAC, led 39-37 at the half and then spent the entire second half beating back AC. AC, 5-15 overall and 3-10 in the CVAC, has lost five straight and three of its last four by five points of less. The Trojans were led by Donielle Davis with 23 points and Robbie Seabrook with 22 points. For the game, there were 16 lead changes and nine ties. There were six lead changes and four ties in the second half. ACís largest lead of the second half was 59-56 with 10:54 remaining. From that point, Barton went on a 15-5 run for a 71-64 lead with 6:37 left. The Bulldogs made four 3-point goals during the decisive run, two by Black. But Barton could not pull away. AC got within two points twice down the stretch but could not retake the lead. A 3-point goal by Davis with 23 seconds remaining sliced the Barton lead to 82-80, but the Bulldogs closed out the game with three free throws. For the game, Barton shot 59 percent from the field to 48 percent for Anderson. The Bulldogs shot a red-hot 61 percent from the field in the second half. The Trojans shot 55 percent in the second half. AC made 10 3-point goals, while Barton made nine. Barton won the boards, 33-31. Bartonís John Green was the gameís leading rebounder with seven.
