Mount Olive's Balance Is Too Much For Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. Ė Mount Olive placed five players in double figures and rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half to take an 83-79 victory in a menís CVAC game Thursday night at the Abney Center. Mount Olive, 14-5 overall and 9-3 in the CVAC, trailed 47-37 with 17:17 to play but from that point, the visiting Trojans rallied to take a 54-53 lead with 12:40 left. The lead would change six more times before Mount Olive took it for good at 69-66 on a 3-point goal by Brad McDougald with 6:40 remaining. Mount Olive was able to stretch its lead to seven points twice in the final four minutes. AC got within two points twice Ė 76-74 with 1:29 remaining and 81-79 with four seconds to play. The loss, ACís fourth in a row and its eighth in its last 11 games, drops the Trojans to 5-14, 3-9. It also marked the second time this week that AC has blown a double-digit lead in the second half at home. AC took the lead six minutes into the game and built a 41-33 halftime lead. Mount Olive was led by Marcus West with 20 points. Dameion Baker added 14 points, Sean Barnett with tallied 12, Janson Greene with scored 11, and McDougald finished with 10. West was 7 for 8 from the field, 2 for 2 from behind the arc, and 4 for 4 from the free throw line. AC was led by Donielle Davis with a season-high 30 points. Osvaldo Haynes added 12 points off the bench. The game was almost a statistical dead heat. Mount Olive shot 48 percent from the field, while AC managed 47 percent. Both teams made eight 3-point goals. The boards were even at 36 apiece, and AC had 17 turnovers to 16 for Mount Olive. Mount Olive outscored AC by six points at the free throw line.
