Men's Basketball Moves Up to Eighth in the Southeast RegionFebruary 28, 2013
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After splitting a pair of road contests last week, the Anderson men’s basketball team moved up two spots and is ranked eighth in the Southeast Region in the NCAA’s second Division II Southeast Region rankings of the season, as released Wednesday.
Anderson (17-8), which is tied for second place in the South Atlantic Conference, is one of four teams from the South Atlantic Conference in the regional rankings.
Lincoln Memorial (21-4) which is ranked 12th in the latest NABC Coaches Poll and is atop the SAC standings, claimed the top spot on the regional list, while USC Aiken slipped from No. 1 to the second slot. Wingate (17-8) slipped from fifth to seventh in the region. Carson-Newman (19-6) appeared in the rankings at No. 10.
UNC Pembroke (16-8), remained steady at sixth and Montevallo (16-8), the defending Southeast Region champion, dropped one spot to ninth, each joined the Pacers from the Peach Belt.
King dropped from third to fifth, while Barton moved up from fourth to third, while Belmont Abbey dropped from seventh out of the top 10. Limestone jumped from ninth to fourth.
The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 6, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 10.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.
Following tonight’s home contest versus Brevard, Anderson wraps up the regular season at Mars Hill on Saturday.
