Men's Basketball Ranked 10th in the Southeast RegionFebruary 20, 2013
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Anderson men’s basketball team is ranked 10th in the Southeast Region in the NCAA’s first Division II Southeast Region rankings of the season, as released Wednesday.
Anderson (15-7, 11-3 SAC), which is tied for second place in the South Atlantic Conference, is one of three teams from the South Atlantic Conference in the regional rankings.
Lincoln Memorial (18-4, 11-3 SAC), which is ranked 19th in the latest NABC Coaches Poll and is tied with the Trojans and Carson-Newman in the league standings, is second on the regional list.
Wingate (16-6, 12-2 SAC), which is currently in first place atop the South Atlantic Conference standings is ranked fifth in the region.
Peach Belt Conference-member USC Aiken (16-6) is ranked first in the region.
UNC Pembroke (14-8), which is sixth and Montevallo (15-8), the defending Southeast Region champion, at eighth, joined the Pacers from the Peach Belt.
King (3rd), Barton (4th), Belmont Abbey (7th) and Limestone (9th) are the four Conference Carolinas’ teams that are regionally ranked.
The regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 6, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Sunday, March 10.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.
Following tonight’s road contest at Wingate, Anderson visits Carson-Newman on Saturday.
