Limestone Keeps AC Winless In The CVAC

ANDERSON, S.C. Ė Limestone rallied from a nine-point deficit early in the second half to beat Anderson 79-72 in a Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference menís game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. The victory was the first of the season for the Saints, 1-9 overall and 1-3 in the CVAC. The loss, ACís fourth in its last five games, drops the Trojans to 2-8, 0-4. There were a total of six ties and 13 lead changes in the game. There were six lead changes in the second half. Anderson opened the second half with a 14-5 run for a 46-37 lead with 15 minutes remaining. But Limestone bounced back with a 10-0 run to take a 47-46 lead with 13:01 left. Joel C. Zimmerman hit back-to-back 3-point goals to give the Trojans a 52-47 lead with 11:48 to play. From that point, Limestone put together a 20-6 run for a 67-58 lead with 3:27 left. Antonio Mays had three baskets and Marquintus Jones had a basket and a three-point play to fuel the Saint run. AC got no closer than seven points the rest of the way. The Saints showed remarkable balance by placing five of the eight players who played in double figures. Brandon Shipman led Limestone with 18 points. He was followed by Jones with 15, Demarcio Downs with 14, Mays with 13, and Donald Johnson with 12. Anderson was led by Donielle Davis with 22 points and Zimmerman with 16. Once again, the Trojans struggled from the field. AC shot just 36 percent in the second half and finished the game at 38 percent.
