Wingate Too Much For AC Down The Stretch

WINGATE, N.C. – Wingate placed five players in double figures to beat Anderson 93-77 in a non-conference men’s game Saturday afternoon at the Cuddy Arena. Wingate, 3-0 overall, was led by Titus Miller with 17 points, Keenan Dun with 15 points, Ronnie Brock and Djuan Hankins with 13 points apiece, and Fernando Powell with 11 points. AC’s Robbie Seabrook was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points. He was followed by Joel C. Zimmerman with 15 and Donielle Davis with 14. Eight minutes into the game, AC trailed 14-11. But then Wingate went on a 26-14 run for a 40-25 lead with 4:16 left in the first half. Trailing 46-29 at the half, the Trojans tried to get back in the game. AC opened the half with a 16-3 run to cut the Wingate lead to 49-45 with 15:13 to play. But then the Bulldogs reeled off eight straight points to extend their lead back to 12 – 57-45 – with 12:56 left. AC got no closer than 10 the rest of the way. Wingate put the game away with a 13-2 run that extended its lead from 67-57 with 7:50 remaining to 80-59 with 5:37 left. Wingate shot 47 percent from the field and made 10 of 16 from behind the arc. AC shot 48 percent from the field, 54 percent in the second half. Wingate won the boards, 40-34. Hankins had eight rebounds for Wingate, while Seabrook had eight for AC.
