
Trojans Rout Erskine for First Win
November 14, 2012ANDERSON, S.C. – With four players reaching double figures, the
Anderson women’s basketball team rolled to an 80-48 nonconference win past
rival Erskine before a raucous crowd Wednesday night at the Abney Athletic
Center.
Anderson (1-1) claimed its 11th consecutive win past Erskine
and has won 15 of the last 16 meetings with the Flying Fleet. Erskine, which
was looking to defeat the Trojans for the first time since 2006, slipped to 0-3
on the season.
The Trojans trailed just once in the opening minute of the
game, as Erskine scored the first basket of the contest.
Clinging to a 22-17 lead with less than three minutes left
in the first half, Anderson closed the frame with nine unanswered points to
take a 31-17 lead at intermission. Freshman guard Madison Floyd ignited the
outburst, with senior forward Tilde Ahlin adding five of her seven points on
the night during the outburst.
The Trojans steadily built a 21-point cushion with 14:20
left in the contest and maintained the margin the rest of the way.
Anderson senior guard Alissa Diaz led all scorers with 15
points, while forward Breonda Shannon narrowly missed her second consecutive
double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Floyd added 11 points and two
assists, with sophomore Jasmine Franklin chipping in 10 points and Sierra
Simpson pulling down nine rebounds.
Erskine’s Andrienne Bannerman posted a double-double with 13
points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Teammate Tori Whittenburg added 12 points
and Tara Potter netted 11.
Anderson out-rebounded the Fleet, 41-35 and out-shot Erskine
41.7 percent to 34 percent.
Anderson
will look to continue building momentum as the Trojans open a five-game road
swing, beginning with a pair of contests at Armstrong Atlantic’s Fairfield Inn & Suites Lady
Pirate Classic in Savannah, Ga. The Trojans open the tourney versus Flagler on
Friday at 5 p.m., then face the host Pirates on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
