COLUMBIA, S.C. – With five players in double figures, South Carolina defeated Anderson, 88-31, in women’s basketball exhibition action Sunday afternoon at Colonial Life Arena.
Playing its third and final exhibition of the preseason against an NCAA Division-I opponent, Anderson was unable to duplicate its feat from less than 48 hours earlier, when the Trojans stunned Clemson, 72-65 at Littlejohn Coliseum after rallying from a 16-point first-half deficit.
Senior guard Alissa Diaz led the Trojans with 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field, while senior forward Breonda Shannon added eight points. Senior Tilde Ahlin recorded a team-high four rebounds and sophomore Sierra Simpson handed out a team-best three assists.
Aleighsa Welch and Asia Dozier each had 14 points for the Gamecocks, while Sancheon White tallied 13 and Khadijah Sessions tallied 11. Freshman guard Tiffany Mitchell chipped in 10 points on the afternoon. Sophomore center Elem Ibiam pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
South Carolina jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first six minutes and the Trojans were unable to recover, as AU connected on just three of its first 17 shots from the field.
South Carolina plays host to Elon on Frida in the Gamecocks’ season opener, while Anderson opens open the regular season with a two-game homestand, beginning with Conference Carolinas’ foe Pfeiffer on Saturday, then plays host to Erskine on Nov. 14
