Trojan Wrestling Opens Season With Setbacks at Virginia Quad Meet
November 3, 2012CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Anderson University wrestling team opened its 2012-13 campaign with setbacks at the University of Virginia’s quad meet, falling 37-13 to Ohio, 37-6 to Chattanooga and 37-12 to 16th-ranked Virginia, Saturday morning at Memorial Gymnasium.
Highly regarded junior 149-pounder Dan Telhada, ranked as high as sixth in the nation, began the season with three wins, including a pin, a major decision and a decision. Freshman Zak Hale also earned a pair of wins, while fellow newcomer Spencer Foucher garnered a win at 197 pounds.
Telhada pinned Cavalier freshman Chris Yankovich, while Foucher pinned UVA’s Cameron King for AU’s points versus Virginia.
Hale earned a hard-fought 4-3 decision past UTC’s Alex Ward and Telhada posted a convincing 7-1 decision over the Mocs’ Jared Presley.
Sophomore Keenan Simmons collected a forfeit at 125 pounds versus Ohio, while Hale garnered his second win of the day by posting a 9-6 decision past the Bobcats’ Thomas McLaughlin in the 133-pound bout. Telhada blanked Ohio’s Gavin Moore, 9-0, for a major decision.
Anderson opens its home schedule Wednesday when Davidson College invades the Abney Athletic Center.
