Men's Basketball Ranked Second in the Southeast Region By the NCAAFebruary 29, 2012
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Anderson men’s basketball team is ranked second in the Southeast Region in the NCAA’s second Division II Southeast Region rankings of the season, as released Wednesday.
Anderson (22-4), which is ranked 16th in the nation in the latest NABC Coaches Poll, is entering the South Atlantic Conference tournament as the top seed after claiming the regular-season title with a stellar 17-1 record. The Trojans are riding an eight-game win streak into the postseason and have won 15 of their last 16 contests as they square off against No. 8 seeded Catawba.
Lincoln Memorial (24-4), which is ranked 17th in the latest NABC Coaches Poll, slipped from the top spot to third in the Southeast Region rankings and is the other SAC school on the regional list.
Eight teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Division II tournament. In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the SAC, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections.
The NCAA will announce its 2012 tournament field Sunday night and the selections will be available beginning at 10:30 p.m. Eastern time on NCAA.com.
