Trull Named First-Team Academic All-DistrictFebruary 2, 2012
ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men’s basketball senior guard Nick Trull has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District III men’s basketball first team for NCAA Division II, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon.
The native of Charlotte, N.C., sports a 3.90 grade point average, while majoring in kinesiology and has been named to the Dean’s List six times.
“Nick epitomizes the meaning of a true student-athlete,” said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. “He is at the top of both spectrums – both as an athlete and a student. We are extremely proud of Nick.”
The 6-foot-2 junior was the NCAA’s Elite 88 Award recipient at the 2011 Elite Eight event in Springfield, Mass. and was named the South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete for men’s basketball last year.
Trull is second all-time in Anderson’s record books with 1,363 career points and has started every game for the Trojans this season, while averaging a team-high 15.2 points per contest. He is 10th in the conference in scoring and ranks fourth in 3-pointers made.
Trull, who was joined on the academic team by Lenoir-Rhyne senior Kevin Davis, leads the squad in 3-pointers on the season and has led the team in scoring on eight occasions, while reaching double-figures 17 times.
In order to earn recognition, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution and are voted upon by CoSIDA members. CoSIDA District III includes Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
The Trojans go on the road for a brief one-game road swing at Mars Hill on Saturday, with tip-off slated for 4 p.m.
