Trojan Wrestlers Drop Two at East Region Duals

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Five individuals won bouts, but the Anderson University wrestling team fell, 31-13, to Seton Hill and 40-8 to Gannon at the 2012 Super Region I Duals, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania-Johnstown Friday at the Sports Center.  

The Trojans dropped the first four bouts against Seton Hill, falling behind, 17-0, and were unable to recover. Nicholas Giulliette, a 157-pound sophomore, put AU on the scoreboard with a 2-1 decision past the Griffons’ Adam Morranduzzo and junior Dalton Harper followed with a convincing, 10-2, major decision over Seton Hill’s Kurt McCamley at 165 pounds to pull Anderson within 17-7.

But the Grtiffons closed the match by winning three of the final four bouts to claim the win, with Trojan senior Jordan Denmark collecting a forfeit at 197 pounds.

Sophomore Melchisedac LaVergne earned a 3-0 decision past the Golden Knights’ Scott Bulzan, while junior Chase Duke posted a 16-1 win  for the Trojans’ two wins in the final match of the day versus the Golden Knights.

Anderson will get back in action Saturday, as the Trojans will square off against eighth-ranked Mercyhurst and Kutztown. The first match is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
