ROCK HILL, S.C. – Senior Taylor Shugart has been named the South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Shugart poured in game-highs in back-to-back contests on the week, averaging a double-double to lead the Trojans to two conference road victories. The 6-foot-7 center averaged 22.5 points and 10 rebounds in wins past Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba, as Anderson remained unbeaten in league action. He shot 62.5 percent (20-of-32) from the field and connected on 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the free throw line, while also recording a pair of steals and two blocks while starting both contests and averaging 34 minutes on the week.
The Rock Hill, S.C., native posted a game-high 23 points versus the Bears on the strength of 10-of-13 shooting from the field, while collecting nine rebounds. He followed up with his fourth double-digit scoring performance of the season with a game-high 22 points and again took home rebounding honors with 11 boards in the win past Catawba, for his eighth career double-double. On the season, he leads the team and ranks eighth in the SAC with nearly seven rebounds per game.
“Taylor had a great week,” said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. “He played very well on both sides of the ball and we are very proud of how well he played. The honor is well-deserved.”
Anderson gets back on the hardwood Wednesday night at Newberry. Tip-off versus the Wolves is slated for 8 p.m.
