Anderson Cruises Past Johnson and WalesDecember 12, 2011
ANDERSON, S.C. – Using an offensive outburst early in the first half, the Anderson University men’s basketball team outpaced Johnson and Wales of Charlotte, 110-47, Monday night at the Abney Athletic Center.
Anderson (7-2) improved to 4-0 at the Abney Center, while earning its fourth consecutive win and sixth game in the last seven outings, while the visiting Wildcats fell to 0-14 on the season.
Leading, 10-9, with 16:30 left in the first half, the Trojans reeled off 19 unanswered points over the next five minutes to put the game out of reach. Junior guard C.J. Gleaton sparked the outburst with six consecutive points, while seniors Nick Trull and Stephen Cobb added eight and five, respectively.
The Trojans were 15-of-22 from beyond the arc, which eclipsed last season’s 13 treys scored against LMU and were the most since connecting on 16 versus North Greenville in November, 2009. Anderson nearly matched the point tally from last season’s 111-106 home win past Newberry.
Trull led all scorers with 20 points in 16 minutes of action, while Gleaton added a season-high 18 points. Senior Jo’el Lamb chipped in a season-high 12 points, with sophomore Kyle Sledge tossing in a dozen as well. Junior guard Denzail Jones and freshman Myles Daniel each handed out five assists.
Freshman DaShaun Alston scored 12 points to lead the Wildcats.
The Trojans have an 18-day layoff for the Christmas break before opening a three-game road swing on New Year’s Eve at North Georgia College. Tip-off in Dahlonega is scheduled for 2 p.m.
