Trojans Drop Hard-Fought DecisionNovember 15, 2011
ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson men’s basketball JV team dropped its season-opener, 67-66, to the Greenville Titans Monday night at the Abney Athletic Center.
The Trojans had an opportunity to tie the game and send it into overtime, but came up just short in front of a great crowd. Juniors Daniel Flores and Austin Mills led the Trojans in scoring with 20 and 17 points, respectively.
The Trojans took control early in the first half with a 29-20 lead with six minutes to play, but the Titans rallied to take the lead into halftime, 34-31.
The Titans scored early in the second half, stretching their lead to nine before the Trojans made a run to cut the deficit to just three. The Titans led the entire second half, as AU missed key opportunities from the free throw line.
Trailing by four points with just four seconds left in the game, freshman Aaron Evans missed the first of two free throws, but made the second to trim the Titan lead to three.
On the ensuing possession, the Trojans’ defense forced a five-second count for the turnover and got the ball underneath their own basket. However, the Titans deflected the inbounds pass and the Trojans managed to get a lay-up as time expired.
