Three First Half Goals Lift Trojans Past Palm Beach Atlantic

Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Using a pair of goals and an assist from senior forward Lasse Sohrweide, Anderson topped Palm Beach Atlantic, 4-1, in men‘s soccer action at Lynn University’s Wyndham Garden Inn/Lynn Soccer Classic Friday afternoon at LU’s McCusker Sports Complex..

Anderson (2-1) won second its straight contest, while halting Palm Beach Atlantic’s (2-1)
season-opening win streak at two.

The Trojans gained the early lead when Sohrweide headed in midfielder Mark Smith’s free kick from the back post than two minutes into the contest. The goal was Sohrweide’s second of the young season, while Smith’s free kick from 35 yards out on the right side resulted in his first assist of the year.

Anderson’s advantage grew to 2-0 at the 15:16 mark, as junior forward Clement Samson took advantage of a cross to the top of box from Sohrweide and Aldo Lopez-Gil’s flip into the box, with Samson working around the Sailfish keeper for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Sohrweide added his second score of the afternoon in the 21st minute as he bent a free kick over the defensive wall from 25 yards out and the ball found its way into the net inside the right post, building AU’s lead to 3-0.

The Sailfish’s Kenny Hogg trimmed the AU lead to 3-1, as the native of Scotland scored on a penalty kick in the 50th minute, but PBA would get no closer as the Trojan’s Tapiwa Munetsi countered with his first career goal in a Trojans’ uniform off an assist from teammate Shu Obawa.

AU junior goalkeeper Lukas Hesse earned his second win of the season, while notching five saves on the afternoon. Junior Jonathan Strunk suffered the setback for Palm Beach Atlantic, surrendering all four goals and recording six saves.

The Trojans outshot PBA, 15-11, but the Sailfish held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Anderson faces the host Black Knights Saturday afternoon in the conclusion of the Classic. Lynn edged the Trojans, 1-0, on a second-half penalty kick last season in Anderson.
