
Men's Tennis Shuts Out Emmanuel College
September 23, 2010ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson men’s tennis team swept visiting Emmanuel College, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.
Stan Atema and Daniel Gonzalez garnered an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Krystof Gulbinovic and IIya Zakharov knocked off the Emmanuel duo of Russell Whitehead and Vic Knighton, 8-0, at No. 2. Deni Mehagic and Loic Ambroise closed out doubles play with an 8-1 win over Carl Brown and Michael Terry at No. 3.
Gulbinovic opened play on the singles’ side with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 past Pavel Zinchenko, with Atema recording a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Gonzalez earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3, while Mehagic posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Whitehead.
Ambroise blanked Terry, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Zakharov collected a 6-0, 6-1 win at No./ 6.
Anderson gets back on the courts Friday by competing in the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional hosted by Francis Marion in Sumter, S.C.
