Men's Basketball Adds Pair of NewcomersSeptember 15, 2010
ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson head men’s basketball coach Jason Taylor has announced the addition of two incoming freshmen to the Trojan squad for 2010-11.
Geoffrey Hunter is a 5-10 point guard from Southern High School in Durham, N.C., who averaged 15.4 points, 6.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game last season for the Spartans.
He was a three-time letterwinner in basketball and also earned a letter in football, while being named to the Piedmont Athletic 4-A all-conference basketball team and the NCBCA All-District 6 Team. Hunter posted a career-high 26 points and eight assists versus Hillside during his senior season.
"We are fortunate to land a guard of Geoffrey's talent,” said Taylor. “He is a true point guard and is a very powerful quick player that loves to compete. He played in a very good conference in high school and competed against some great guards night in and night out. He is a great addition to our team."
Chris Ross, a native of Moore, S.C. is a 6-8 post player who competed for the Dorman High School Cavaliers.
"His best basketball is ahead of him,” said Taylor of Ross. “He has only been playing for a year or two and has just scratched the surface with his potential. He played for a great high school coach in Coach Ryan at Dorman, so he brings with him a solid foundation of how to play hard. He loves to compete and I am looking forward to coaching him."
Ross posted three double-figure outings during his senior campaign, highlighted by an 18-point night against Laurens High School.
The duo joins six other newcomers on the 2010-11 roster.
Anderson opens the 2010-11 season at the South Atlantic Conference/Peach Belt Challenge on Nov. 12-13 versus Augusta State and Clayton State at Tusculum College.
