April 22, 2010ANDERSON, S.C. -- After helping lead the Anderson women's tennis team to its' first-ever appearance in the Conference Carolinas semifinals, the Trojans' Emily Weiland has been named to the all-tournament as announced by the league office.
Playing in her hometown of Sumter, S.C., Weiland posted a combined 3-1 record as Anderson claimed third place in the three-day event. She teamed with Angie Solorzano for two doubles victories and also won her lone singles’ match on Sunday in the battle for third place.
The fourth-seeded Trojans blanked No. 3 seed Pfeiffer, 5-0, in their first round match, with the duo of Weiland and Solorzano shutting out the Lady Falcon’s tandem of Catie Thomas and Chelsi Haefele, 8-0, at the No. 3 flight. Weiland and Solorzano suffered an 8-2 setback to Queens’ Elena Mileva and Kaitlyn Blakey as AU dropped a 5-0 decision to the Lady Royals on Saturday, but the pair bounced back for a hard-fought 9-7 win past Lees-McRae’s Gabriela Celi and Brianna Fulp, with Weiland also collecting a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win over LMC’s Cameron Joyce at the No. 6 singles’ slot to help lift AU to third place.
