Women's Tennis Tops Mars Hill

Marcela Gallegos and Shelby Anderson teamed up to defeat Ona Jane and Paola Aybar Jiminez, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles and Camie Beaulieu Brunet and Lisa Gorman picked up a win at No. 3 by default. Anderson then gained wins at five of the six singles’ positions to garner the win, with Angie Solorzano collecting a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 win past Patricia La Rovere and
Marcela Gallegos outlasting Jane, 3-6, 6-2 (10-2). Shelby Anderson earned a 6-2, 6-3 win past Paola Aybar Jiminez at the No. 4 spot, with Julie Halbert running her record to a perfect 3-0 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Jordan Dockery at No. 5. Anderson’s Emily Weiland picked up a win by default at No. 6. Anderson improved to 1-2 on the season while the Lions dropped to 0-2. The Trojans play their fourth match in five days when AU travels to Savannah to square off against top-ranked and two-time defending NCAA DII national champions Armstrong Atlantic, with the match slated for Noon.
