#17 TROJANS DROP 2nd STRAIGHT IN MEN'S TENNIS

ANDERSON, SC--The Anderson University men's tennis team (5-3,3-1) led 4-2 Saturday at #39 Lees-McRae, before dropping the last three singles matches to lose to the Bobcats; Sunday at Max Grubb's Tennis Complex, the Trojans faced an even more formidable foe in #11 Francis Marion (11-4,2-4), and after spotting the visitors a 2-1 lead in doubles competition, the Trojans lost 4 of 6 singles matches to give Francis Marion the 6-3 victory. Freshman Stephan Murray, typically a stalwart for the Trojans this season, lost the first two sets and the first singles match of his young college career. Murray falls to 7-1 in singles competition this season. The wind was biting all day long, with gusts reaching 27 mph; after playing in completely calm indoor conditions at Lees-McRae College on Saturday in Banner Elk, NC, the Trojans were hard-pressed to make adjustments very early in the day. "The wind is definitely a factor," said AU head coach Joey Eskridge. "But we gotta get better, we are better [than we played today]." All is not lost on the year for AU. Sitting at 3-1 in Conference Carolinas competition, the Trojans have faced the lion share of ranked teams in the league, as only #32 Mount Olive remains on the upcoming schedule. The Trojans sit poised to enter the league tournament with a strong seed.
