Men's Tennis Team Headed To Greenwood
April 30, 2008ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson University men's tennis team will travel to Greenwood, S.C., for the NCAA Regional May 8-9. In Thursday's first round, host Lander (17-6) will play Augusta State (15-9) at 10 a.m., and the Trojans (18-7) will face Francis Marion (16-5) at 2 p.m. The two winners will meet at 11 a.m. Friday for a bid to the NCAA Division II national tournament May 14-17 in Houston, Texas. Anderson is 1-2 against the regional field. The Trojans faced all three regional participants on the road. Anderson beat Augusta State, 7-2 on Mar. 11; lost to Francis Marion, 5-2 on Feb. 9; and lost to Lander, 6-3 on Apr. 9. Anderson is led by Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Philip Pakebusch, who is 16-3 overall. Pakebusch has won six singles matches in a row and 12 of his last 13. Anderson earned its bid by winning its fifth straight Conference Carolinas Tournament title Apr. 20 in Sumter, S.C.
