Women's Golf Fourth; Men's Golf 10th Following Day

CLEMMONS, N.C. -- The Anderson women's golf team is alone in fourth place, while the AU men's team slipped to 10th after Monday's second round at the 2010 Conference Carolinas Golf Championships, hosted by Belmont Abbey at Tanglewood Park (Championship Course) in Clemmons, North Carolina.

The Belmont Abbey women's golf team extended its lead to 41 shots, and the Crusader men's golf team rode a two under par 68 from senior Joe Campbell to take a seven shot lead after the second round. For the women, playing on a 5,805-yard, par 72 course, the Trojans saw the second-largest improvement of teams in the event, jumping 12 shots, while leader Belmont Abbey posted a 311 today, two higher than yesterday's total, as it leads Queens by 41 strokes. The Royals entered today in third, behind Pfeiffer, but it posted a 326 today to jump the Falcons and hold second place by five shots. Anderson sits in fourth, 16 shots clear of fifth place Erskine. Mount Olive is alone in sixth, while Limestone and Saint Andrews Presbyterian round out the field.

For the men, playing on a 6,826-yard, par 70 layout, the Abbey and Barton entered today tied for the lead with scores of 293, but the Abbey posted a 291 today, using Campbell's low round of 68, to claim the lead. Campbell was one of two players to post scores under par, as Queens's Pureum Lee fired a 69. Barton carded a 298 as it enters the final round trailing by seven shots. Campbell holds the individual lead by three shots over teammate Adam Hedges, who opened the tournament with a 68 and fired a 76 today. Teammate Peter Tarver Jones is in a tie for third with Barton's Thomas Muto and Daniel Castleberry. Saint Andrews Presbyterian holds down third by four shots over Coker. Pfeiffer and Queens share fifth and Limestone is in seventh. Mount Olive jumped from tenth to eighth after posting a 302, 22 shots fewer than yesterday. They are one stroke ahead of Erskine.

Anderson is tenth, followed by Lees-McRae. Kalyn Johnson (85-83=168) improved by two shots and continues to lead the Anderson effort, sitting alone in 15th, while teammate Laura Buyers (88-81=169) trimmed seven strokes off her first-round scorecard to grab 16th . Hayley Parks (85-=170) played consistently and hols the 17th spot. Sophie Dembroski (88-85=173) grabbed a share of 20th, while Lindsay Parks (89-92=181) slipped three shots and sits in 31st. For the men, Chase Epting (80-75=155) moved into a share of 29th, while teammate Ryan Booth carded a second day 80, and is in the clubhouse in a tie for 33rd with his 157. Kenny Shockley (83-79=162) sliced four strokes from Monday’s round and shares 44th , while Charlie Bagwell (81-81=162) shot his second consecutive 81 and is also in 44th. Won Jacob Yoon (80-88=168) slipped into a tie for 51st.

The final round gets underway tomorrow morning with the men going off the first tee at 8:00 a.m. and the women at 8:32 on the tenth tee.
