Women's Golf in Seventh at Patsy Rendleman Invite

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Senior Sophie Dembroski shot a strong first-round two-over par 74 to pace the Anderson women's golf team Monday afternoon at the 2009 Patsy Rendleman Invitational women's golf tournament being hosted by Catawba College at the 5,983-yard, Par-72 Country Club of Salisbury. Newberry shot a total of 306, while Belmont Abbey came in at 311. UNC Pembroke stands third with a 319, host Catawba is fourth at 319 and Wingate rounds out the top five with a 320 score. The Trojans (323) trail sixth-place Carson-Newman by a single stroke, Wingate by two and host Catawba by just four strokes heading into Tuesday’s final round. Dembroski posted the second-lowest total on the front nine with a 34 and sits just one stroke off the pace behind Newberry teammates Josefine Mensner and Maria Luz. AU sophomore Kalyn Johnson garnered a share of 26th with a steady 10-over 82, while fellow sophomore Laura Buyers carded and 83. Sophomore Hayley Parks (T37th) and freshman Lindsay Parks (T39th) posted scores of 84 and 85, respectively.
