Women's Golf Team Heads To Kiawah

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson College women's golf team begins the spring portion of its schedule Saturday in the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Invitational. AC women’s golf coach Danny Neal says his team is going to have to step up to defend its CVAC title this spring. The Lady Trojans won the first-ever women’s CVAC Championship Tournament last spring, but the task is going to be much tougher in 2005. “Last year, we won the conference shooting 345 three days in a row,” Neal said. “That’s not even going to come close this year. Other teams in the CVAC were shooting upper 320s consistently in the fall. We have an uphill battle to repeat.” Anderson is missing CVAC Player of the Year Kathryn Adkins, who wrapped her career by winning the CVAC individual title. “We have a talented team, and potentially, we’ve got a real good team,” Neal said. “There’s no reason we can’t compete but it will take a real good effort for us to win the CVAC Tournament again.” The Lady Trojans are led by senior Brandi Jackson and sophomore Carlie Eastman. Jackson was AC’s medalist in two fall tournaments, while Eastman was the team’s medalist once. Eastman also recorded her first tournament round in the 70s in AC’s final tournament of the fall at Catawba. “Brandi has more talent than she’s been able to display or I’ve been able to get out of her,” Neal said. “She’s got the ability to get into the 70s more often than she has. Carlie has a lot of desire to improve her game.”
